ASKED QUESTIONS —
What
is holistic? Holistic
refers to perceiving a person in her/his wholeness, including
mind, body, spirit. We take into account the entire person
and that this person is whole, with strengths and wisdom
even if the person is not yet able to identify this. Therapy
is natural, non pharmaceutical. Non holistic perspective
view clients as having pathology and is more medicine oriented.
Our
focus is to educate and empower our clients so they feel relief
and hope. We teach clients how to tune into their bodies as
indicators of how they are feeling and the effect their emotions
have. We teach them awareness of their continual mind chatter
and how to quiet the mind. We then teach them skills for being
present and accepting their current situation and how to shift
from distress to more comfortable states. We also honor and
value client’s spiritual or religious source as a resource
for their healing.
How
are you different from other talk therapy therapists? We
begin with the intention that we are here to serve our
clients. We are passionate about helping our clients feel
better and ultimately become their own therapist. Our belief
is not to foster dependency on us but to empower. We create
a safe, sacred healing space for our clients. We use many
modalities rather than a specific style to personalize
treatment for the client’s good. We ask for feedback
to ascertain if the client feels his or her needs are being
met therapeutically and what else may need attention. We
support the client in developing awareness of their choices
and solutions all through their therapy.
What
are your sessions like? During
a first session, we complete and review some paperwork
including questionnaires. Clients provide history of their
concerns and why they are seeking treatment now. We discuss
their strengths, fears, their perceived obstacles and what
they hope to achieve therapeutically. Together we develop
a plan for therapy. We use a number of techniques to help
clients relax and become more aware of how emotions affect
their body. Clients are taught strategies to use to help
with their day to day lives.
How
long is a session? Counseling
sessions last from one to two hours. Hypnosis sessions
last two hours.
What
is hypnotherapy? Actually
all hypnosis is self hypnosis. The therapist teaches their
client how to enter the hypnotic state so they can do so
on their own. Hypnosis is a temporary state. Your subconscious
mind remains alert and allows you to come out of the hypnotic
state, when the session is over. Moreover, the experience
of hypnosis is not the same as sleep. You are aware of
everything taking place and can recall it when needed after
the session. You do not do anything that you do not want
to do, while under hypnosis.
In
a session, the trained therapist assists clients to shift mental
attention from their conscious waking state to a trance state
similar to daydreaming. We have found hypnosis to be an excellent
way to help clients manage or eliminate physical pain, phobias,
obsessions, panic attacks, smoking and eating issues, stress,
sexual dysfunction problems and many more areas. A safe, relaxing,
confidential method that can promote positive change and help
you to perceive yourself in a new light.
What
is energy healing? We
have been trained in several energy healing modalities
for hands on. These are based on the teaching that distress
in the body is due to energy imbalances or blocks. Being
holistic, we understand that not only is a person’s
mind body spirit connected, but that all people are connected
energetically to each other. This is why we affect each
other so easily by how we treat each other.
When
using energy healing in our session, we focus our attention
on love, healing and balance. We may use a gentle touch or
may not even touch the client. We do not massage. We may use
a combination of acupressure, Reiki, Quantum Touch, Healing
Touch or Ho'oponopono. Clients report feeling very calm, relaxed,
lighter, with lessening of physical pain.
Can
I be hypnotized? In
our experience and the experience of our peers, most
people can be hypnotized as long as they have average
intelligence, ability to follow simple instructions and
feel safe in their relationship with the therapist. The
trance like state we experience in hypnosis is as naturally
occurring phenomenon that our minds go in and out of
each day.
What
is EFT? Emotional Freedom
Technique is a rapid highly effective, easy to learn self-healing
technique. It is based on wisdom from Traditional Chinese
Medicine and how life force energy flows through our bodies.
EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture (without needles)
where we stimulate certain meridian points on our body
by tapping on them with our fingertips. In over a decade
using EFT in sessions, our clients often report feeling
amazing relief from distress they have struggled with for
many years. EFT may reduce the therapeutic process from
months or years down to hours or minutes. And, since emotional
stress can contribute to pain, disease and physical ailments,
we often find that EFT provides astonishing physical relief.
How
many sessions do I need? Our
services are often considered brief therapy. We teach
many self healing tools so that our clients have effective
skills they can use each day. A client may find relief
from their concern in as few as three to six sessions.
Or she or he may opt for as many as twelve to fifteen
sessions or more.
